Sabah's biggest church built without government aid

Deputy chief minister Peter Pang En Yin (right) is surprised to learn that the multi-million ringgit Glory Christian Centre is built out of the generosity of its 2,000 churchgoers, without any help from the Sabah government which gives millions of ringgit to churches every year. Mr Pang says his government would have given GCC money if it had asked. The biggest beneficiary of the Sabah government’s generosity has been the Roman Catholic diocese.

Chinese cultural torch run

Chief Minister Musa Aman lit a torch on October 9 in Kota Kinabalu to launch the final lap of a five-month long Chinese cultural torch run. It is the precursor to a one-million ringgit ($320,000) national Chinese cultural festival on November 11 at the Likas Sports Complex in Kota Kinabalu. The Sabah government has donated 200,000 ringgit to it and Prime Minister Najib Razak is expected to launch the festival in its 28th year.
