Sabah’s Sports Awards: Crowning glory for Ricky Leong and Frenceay Titus

The 25th Sabah Sports Awards crowned karate champion Ricky Leong Tze Wai and weightlifter Frenceay Titus as Sabah's Sportsman and Sportswoman of 2011/2012, on Friday night. Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, accompanied by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, presented the duo their trophies.

Sabah’s sports complexes all set to host the Sixth Sabah Games

The Youth and Sports Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Datuk Suzannah Liaw confirmed that Kota Kinabalu City is ready to host the Sixth Sabah Games as the construction and upgrading of the sports complex facilities in Likas and Penampang were completed in March this year. “The facilities were completed in March but we are still in the process of checking to ascertain that the works are according to the specifications and required standard,” she said at the press conference of the 2013 SAGA at Kota Kinabalu City Hall, yesterday. The other locations for the games are in Tuaran, Putatan and facilities around Kota Kinabalu.“This will be the biggest games in Malaysia. Even Malaysia Games (SUKMA) did not come up to our numbers. This year, SAGA like in the previous five games will see more participants compared to 2011 SAGA in Keningau, which had 5,322 participants. This year 5,756 participants will take part in the games,” she said.

Mayor signals countdown to the 6th Sabah Games

With only 34 days to go before the 2013 Sabah Games (SAGA), the action committee members and official officers gear up for the biggest games for Sabah. At the press conference of the 2013 Sixth SAGA, Kota Kinabalu Mayor, Datuk Abidin Madingkir said the games will run from 2nd to 7th June. The opening is expected to be officiated by the Sabah Chief Minister at the Likas Sports Complex on the 2nd June at 7.00 pm.

Raising drug awareness through sports

Engaging in sporting activities could steer youths away from drugs, according to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin. He said those who are active in sports are especially aware of the dangers of drug misuse. That being so, he praised the State National Anti-Drugs Association's (PEMADAM) approach in organising sports activities. "In organising sports activities, PEMADAM raises awareness on the dangers of drugs to the family, the community and the country," he said.

“Nothing is impossible for Sabah football team,” Chief Minister of Sabah Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman said when he presented the SAFA football team line up for the 2013 new season Premier League at Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu on Tuesday. Musa who is also the President of Sabah Football Association (SAFA) told the Sabah football players that they must carry themselves with dignity as Sabah players in the coming Premier League season.

The 26th Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon

“The World's Toughest Mountain Race” is set to take place in Kundasang on the 14th of October. This year the race will follow a new route. It will be flagged off from Kinabalu Park headquarters and, instead of using the trail from Kinabalu Park headquarters to the peak of Mount Kinabalu and back down again, runners will go half way up the Mountain to Layang-layang station which is 2760.3 m above sea level, and head down to Mesilau Nature Resort before running towards the finish line in Kundasang township.
