Masidi says tourists are coming back in droves

“Affected but only temporarily” that is the answer from Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Masidi Manjun to Elopura Assemblymen, Au Kam Wah's question on the damage caused by the Lahad Datu intrusion to the tourism sector. Masidi admits that some of the tour operators especially hotel sector were affected by the incident. “We are bouncing back. This is a collective effort from all parties, the public and private sectors,” he said during the question and answer session on Tuesday.

Masidi: Spread the word about beautiful Babagon

The pristine and natural beauty of the Babagon River which courses through Kampung Babagon, could be very attractive to visitors said Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun. Speaking to members of the social media during his recent visit to Kampung Babagon, Masidi described the Babagon River as one of Sabah's most beautiful rivers. “The Babagon River has its own charm which holds the potential to offer an attractive eco-adventure destination to tourists,” he said Masidi said that Kampung Babagon which practices the “tagal” system of fish harvesting is already a popular destination among foreign tourists although it is less known locally.

Sabah’s tourism industry resumes its uptrend

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Masidi Manjun revealed that international tourist arrivals to Sabah increased by five per cent in the first three months compared to the same period in the previous year. “This is a phenomenal growth. We are now ready to bounce back and seize new opportunities after the unfortunate Lahad Datu incident that caused a slight dip in the number of tourists to Sabah,” he said to reporters at MASwings Top Travel Agent Awards at Magellan Sutera Harbour on Thursday. Masidi said despite the Lahad Datu incident the number of tourists to Sabah between January and March this year was 718,626 as compared to 684,546 during the same period last year.

MATTA welcomes Masidi's reappointment

Chairman of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Sabah KL Tan today welcomed the reappointment of Datuk Masidi Manjun as Minister in charge of Sabah's tourism sector. "With the reappointment of Datuk Masidi as the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, we can expect him to continue to support the conservation efforts and continue to stand on the various issues that affect the tourism industry and its sustainability," he said.

Masidi: Sabah will proceed with 2013 Tourism Calendar activities

Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun announced that the Sabah Tourism Board will carry on with the scheduled activities in the tourism calendar for 2013. “We are proceeding with all the activities in the tourism calendar including the Regatta Lepa in Semporna,” said Masidi at the Malindo Air Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu Inaugural Flight Press Conference held in Kota Kinabalu International Airport's Terminal 1 recently on March 22.

KKIA is poised for an upsurge of foreign arrivals

The addition of a new direct route as well as the reinstatement of three other direct routes from the Asia Pacific region will further increase the foreign arrivals to Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA). 11 airlines with a weekly seating capacity of 18,000 will reconnect 13 international cities with Sabah, including Shanghai, Hong Kong, Osaka and Perth.
