CM Thumbs up on teaching and learning of foreign languages

Speaking at the State-level Sabah Youth Forum, Poetry recital and Sahibba competition at Kota Kinabalu Thursday, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Hj. Aman said that in an ever-changing and interdependent world, it is important for students to achieve proficiency in foreign languages not only to bridge cultural gaps in the wider world, but particularly to communicate, learn new ideas and gain access to wider career opportunities.

Continuous efforts to equip Kota Marudu with education infrastructure and facilities

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Ongkili said education in Kota Marudu was one of his priorities in ensuring the progress of the community and constituency. He said this at the closing ceremony and presentation of certificates at the Tunas Cemerlang 2.0: CyberSAFE Mentor programme conducted by CyberSecurity Malaysia, an agency of his ministry. Dr. Ongkili said that Kota Marudu has and will continue to benefit from efforts to provide rural schools with education infrastructure and facilities. He disclosed over the past five years there has been much progress in education in Kota Marudu, including the planned establishment of a community college to serve northern Sabah, the construction of five new school buildings and seven rural hostels, as well as the distribution of 1Malaysia netbooks to over 5,500 students.

CM commends the officers and staff of the Education Department for their dedicated service

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman commended officers and staff of the Education Department for their relentless effort to raise the standard of education in the state. “Academically, Sabah has shown much progress in producing better examination results each year which reflects the department's hardwork and commitment to education,” he said during a meeting with state education officers in Sri Gaya, here Friday. The State Education Department, headed by James Alip, consists of head of sectors, school inspectorates, district education personnel and state education officers.

2012 SPM: Sabah outshines national performance

28 schools in Sabah achieved 100 percent passes in the 2012 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, compared to 19 schools in 2011, Education Director; Jame Alip said when he announced the 2012 SPM results at SMK Tamparuli on Thursday. He disclosed that 94.31 per cent (31,626 candidates) in national type schools received their SPM certificates out of 33,535 candidates who sat for the exam. "This shows an increase of 0.26 per cent over the 2011 pass rate of 94.05 per cent," he said.

Better STPM showing last year

It was good news for many Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) candidates in Sabah yesterday as 5,367 (89.41 percent) candidates who sat for the examination in 2012 passed all their papers. This is a 0.65 percent increase from 2011 at 88.76 percent. In Sabah, ten schools achieved a 100 percent pass and six candidates scored a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.00.

RM26.4 million spent on schools in Gaya Island

In 2011 Deputy Education Minister Dr Puad Zarkashi promised to rebuild the schools in Gaya Island. The first promise that he made was to improve the poor condition of SK Pulau Gaya during his first visit there that year. Leter in the same year, Puad came back to visit the island after hearing news that two blocks of SMK Pulau Gaya were destroyed by fire. That was when he made his second promise to rebuild the secondary school.
