Dividend payment of RM511,000 to participants of the Lalampas Agropolitan Project

The Sabah State Government has approved a payout amounting RM511,000 to 1,022 participants of an agropolitan project in Lalampas, as part of the rural agricultural development programme. Masiung Bana, who is the State Assemblyman for Kuamut and Assistant Minister to Youth and Sports Minister, was speaking during the presentation of dividends to participants of the Lalampas Agropolitan Project at Kampung Simpang Entilibon. He said the third allocation was in line with the government's strategy to reduce hardcore poverty. The project involves a land area of 9,000 hectares zoned for oil palm cultivation undertaken by 1,022 villagers from 16 kampungs within the Kuamut state constituency.

Stressing the importance of bringing sustainable development to communities living in the rural areas, Shafie spoke about specific measures to boost growth, productivity and employment. “This approach would bring better development to the rural areas,” he told reporters at a thanksgiving gathering recently.Shafie added that the programmes are designed to ensure that there would be no overlapping of development efforts.

According to Minister of Industrial Development Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah, the European economic crisis halfway across the world has had, to some extent, an adverse impact on Sabah's export to Europe and America. As a result of the crisis, demands for Sabah's goods in these countries have dropped, causing the state's total exports to decrease from RM49.4 billion in 2012 to RM47.8 billion in 2011.

Yee urges closer Sino-Sabah ties

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr. Yee Moh Chai called on Sabahans to explore ways that would lead to the strengthening of cultural and economic ties with China to achieve mutual prosperity. Dr. Yee, who is also Minister of Resource Development and Information Technology said this at the installation of the Ma-Zhong Friendship Association of Sabah in Kota Kinabalu last Sunday, which also marked the 39th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Malaysia-China Diplomatic Relations.

High GDP growth driven by domestic consumption in 2013

According to the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER), the country's economy is expected to grow 5.6 percent this year, driven primarily by its domestic economy. However, inflation is expected to rise to 2.5 percent due to an increased inflow of capital into the manufacturing sector. The institute also forecasts the nation's gross domestic product (GDP) for the year 2014 to be within 5 and 6 percent with inflation to be maintained at 2.5 percent. Dr. Zakariah Abdul Rashid maintains that at this rate Malaysia's economic growth is faster than the global economic growth, which is projected at 3.3 percent in 2012 and 3.6 percent in 2013.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai said that the basic consideration in regard to the minimum wage issue is whether employers can show sympathy and kindness towards their employees by paying them the minimum wage. He said the minimum wage decision came after months of consultations between associations of employers and bodies representing the workers.

Five major PETRONAS projects in Sabah coming on-stream in 2013

The state's oil and gas industry will reach an important milestone this year as 5 of PETRONAS' key projects in Sabah will start coming on stream. The projects are the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal (SOGT), the Sabah-Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP), the Kimanis Power Plant (KPP), the Kimanis Petroleum Training Centre (KTC) and the Kinabalu NAG upstream development. According to Joseph Podtung, chairman of PETRONAS Sabah and Labuan, these projects are part of PETRONAS' overall plan to optimise the value of the oil and gas resources found offshore of Sabah.
