A royal milestone

It is not often that Sabah gets a visit from the monarch of Brunei, its tiny oil-rich neighbour wedged in north-eastern Sarawak. So the timber town of Sandakan buzzed with excitement as Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, 65, touched down for a two-day official visit on March 3. Brunei officials said it was to make up for the visit he skipped in 2009 during his state tour. It was cancelled by floods. But officials from both sides said Hassanal's visit was a milestone that could spell rich business for Brunei and Sabah.
