RM190,000 reaped in first 3 days of Malaysian Craft Promotion Campaign 2013

Handicraft entrepreneurs taking part in the Malaysian Craft Promotion Campaign have accumulated a total sales revenue of RM190,000 in the first three days of its initiation this year. Kota Kinabalu City Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir disclosed this to reporters at a press conference held at Deasoka Square in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.

Creating a rich creative industry

A blink can be as long as five minutes. That is the maximum length of a movie for a film-making contest of the yearly Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival (KKIFF) organized by the Society of Performing Arts of Kota Kinabalu (SPaRKS). Blink5 is a copy of the eight-minute movie of the educational digital film festival pioneered by the IT advancement unit of the Sabah ministry of resource development and information technology, Multi-Media Development Corporation and the ministry of education. The Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (Sedia) is financing it even though the maiden SPaRKS contest last year attracted only six contestants – five from Sabah and the other from Kuala Lumpur.

Facebook way to lure tourists

Masidi Manjun is an avid photographer. But he doesn't carry with him lots of cameras and photographic equipment. He uses his mobile phone to take pictures and then post them on the Facebook social-networking site. The tourism, culture and environment minister says that is his own way to lure tourists to sabah.

A helping hand for Sabah's craftsmen

Sabah handicrafts are popular with tourists who throng the handicraft market in Sinsuran in Kota Kinabalu every day in search of souvenirs. Many pay (with dollars) hundreds of ringgit for necklaces and bangles made from cultured pearls. Sellers do a brisk business. Yet there were little interests in the recent maiden Sabah Handicraft Tamu at the Penampang Cultural Centre.
