“The highest form of art”

An art gallery is a most unlikely place to give birth to a child. But for performance artist Marni Kotak, 36, giving birth to her baby boy in a New York City art gallery on October 25 is the “highest form of art”. The Microscope Gallery in Brooklyn said in a statement that the baby is named Ajax. He was 21 inches (53 centimetres) long and weighed nine pounds and 2 ounces (1.2kg) at birth. About 20 people witness the “relatively quick” birth in a birthing pool, according to the gallery which gave no other details but said a video of the birth would be added to its forthcoming exhibition.

A Singapore sling

It is an offence to conduct an exit poll in Singapore. Police on the island state has arrested Joseph Ong Chor Teck for offences under the Parliamentary Elections Act for conducting one Temasek Review, a popular socio-political website that is critical of the ruling People's Action Party (PAP). Ong conducted the poll during the May 7 general election in which the opposition scored historic gains although the PAP once again swept to power in the mostly hotly fought contest.

Turtles halt flights in New York

For about 15 minutes, flights from John F. Kennedy International Airport were held back on Wednesday because pilots were waiting for 150 diamondback terrapin turtles to cross the runway. Airport authorities in New York said the reptiles were crawling to the other side to lay eggs on the shores of Jamaica Bay Wildlife refuge that borders the airport.
