垂死之家日漸擁擠

協會尋求200萬令吉作擴建會所用途

始于1995年的亞庇安寧療護協會儘管開始時只有四張病床,但卻依然默默地為癌症末期病人服務,讓他們得以安寧地離去。該附屬在亞庇伊麗莎白女皇醫院的安寧療護協會不僅是馬來西亞首個療護中心,同時也是國内其他療護中心的模範。在該協會于1998年正式註冊成爲慈善組織的隔年,該協會再增加六張病床。但鑒于該協會會所空間不大,無法為更多病患提供服務,因此今年該協會希望能獲得200萬令吉(約67萬美元)作爲擴展會所的用途。
該協會提供免費的安寧療護服務予病患者。他們都是透過登門造訪,協助病患舒緩生理和心靈上的痛苦以及減輕他們對死亡的恐懼。據亞庇安寧療護協會主席林恆貞表示,此服務旨在提供更好的生活素質予患者,而非延長或加速他們的生命。至於在日間護理中心,病患則有機會學習琴棋書畫,以及享受美甲、按摩、歌舞和以茶或咖啡會友,好好地享受生命的餘輝。
也是合格護士與助產婦的林氏指出,坊間對安寧療護服務的要求已逐漸增加。其協會每年需要40萬令吉經費作爲照顧60名患有癌症或絕症的病患。這些經費大部分都是來自善心人士的捐款,不過去年該協會獲財政部撥予29萬5000令吉的款項,以及聯邦衛生部撥出五年共16萬令吉的撥款。
該協會在本月舉行的慈善晚宴中共籌得39萬7000令吉,其中32萬令吉來自晚宴票務所得,其餘的則是拍賣本地畫家作品所得。也是Pantai Fomema & Systems有限公司顧問的林女士指這次是該協會所籌得最多款項的晚宴。該協會同樣迎來新的資助者—水供特許經銷商天美有限公司的首席執行員維特保羅。。他最近也免費為沙巴州政府在丹容亞路興建一個總值5000萬令吉,佔地7.5公頃(約18英畝)的首要休閒公園。

沙巴州政府在2001年耗資30萬令吉,將距離兵南邦路亞庇伊麗莎白女皇醫院不遠的玫瑰園兩間房屋改建成亞庇安寧療護中心。該會所内擁有辦公室、會議室、日見護理、醫療器材儲藏室與廚房。
林氏表示,儘管該會所的日間護理中心目前僅照顧10名病患,但已顯得擁擠和空間不足。該會所擁有全職醫生、五名協調護士、一名行政助理、一名司機和30名義工。
亞庇安寧療護中心需要一間雙層房屋來安置更多的員工和病人。林女士表示,他們將會安排一名藥劑師、更大的醫療器材儲藏室、好的訓練器材和祈禱室等。目前她正等待政府批准其擴建計劃,批准後就要開始進行募款活動。 – Insight Sabah
