拿篤有10頭大象被救出

正當人民依然對14頭婆羅洲小矮象被發現離奇死亡一事感到震撼之際,拿篤傳出有10頭大象被拯救出的消息,讓人民得以紓緩小矮象死亡帶來的震驚。
該10頭大象都是被沙巴野生動物局在1月18日至25日之間被救出,同時相信它們是從踏賓的活動點行走超過45公里到距離拿篤鎮約10公里的地區。
“我們接到一名來自公衆的投訴,指其靠近拿篤的斯里東谷西邦博邁園坵的住家附近有象群徘徊遊蕩,”沙巴野生動物局拯救隊高級官員基比烏斯道西解釋。
該局立即派遣拯救隊前往該地點,並在該處發現10頭大象,包括9頭年齡不一的雌象和一頭年約4歲的雄象。基比烏斯證實,該批大象是來自同一個象群。
野生動物拯救組(WRU)及達瑙基朗野外中心獸醫戴安娜拉米雷玆表示,所有9頭雌象都已被移回踏賓野生動物園。她補充,他們已在當中兩頭年齡最大的象隻上安裝了達瑙基朗野外中心提供的衛星追蹤環。
至於唯一的雄象則因象鼻嚴重受創,因此已移到洛交宜野生動物園接受治療。
拉米雷玆解釋,若該雄象不加以治療,其在野外生存的機會是非常渺茫。
鑒于運輸上的問題,因此他們只能分階段分批地遷移和釋放該批大象。
野生動物局高級官員兼拯救隊領隊森迪威爾納丹醫生透露,其隊伍目前正研究在未來把同一象群的大象在同一地點釋放,避免他們走散。
“這或許會增加成本和在運送它們方面面對更多的挑戰,因爲我們必須設立釋放前的集中區和租用更多的羅里。但我們主要關注的,是大象的福利和保持它們象群的完整性,”他說。
達瑙基朗野外中心總監柏諾谷森博士表示,大規模的農業活動如棕油種植園坵開發活動將會縮減沙巴州内大象和其他野生動物的棲息地。這將導致人類與大象的衝突事件增加。
“最近14頭大象的死亡事件相信是與人象衝突有關,這很明顯的顯示有需要良好的園坵内外的景觀管理,為野生動物提供從一個森林移動到另一個森林的走道,”谷森補充。
據谷森指出,他們在經過一個月的衛星監督下,發現該兩頭雌象依然在野生動物區園内活動,不過還未進入踏賓附近的園坵内。
“若它們又再走回拿篤的話,我們將能分析它們的遷移移動模式,並向園坵業者提供如何設立圍欄以防止象群再次入侵事件的建議,”他說。
大象遷移是沙巴野生動物局與達瑙基朗野外中心自去年起推行的長期性計劃,以解決在農業種植地如棕油園坵發生的人象衝突事件。
目前這項計劃是由亞洲大象基金會和默罕默德札耶物種保育基金會所資助。
