Muhyiddin speaks of special measures to raise education standard in Sabah

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin disclosed yesterday that a comprehensive Rural/Interior Education Development Transformation Plan for Sabah and Sarawak will be announced by the government soon.

According to Muhyiddin, in a bid to raise the standard of education in the East Malaysian states, the Ministry of Education has drafted an education plan specifically for Sabah and Sarawak.

Muhyiddin, who is on a two-day visit to Sabah, said this during a meet the people session in Tenom.

"I am waiting for the right time to launch the plan which is aimed at improving the quality of education in Sabah and Sarawak to be on par with other states," he said.

According to Muhyiddin, who is also Minister of Education, the funds allocated to the Ministry of Education have not been able to sufficiently meet the needs in Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia to build classrooms and halls.

At the gathering, Muhyiddin approved a RM2 million budget for the building construction of SM Chung Hwa and RM500,000 for a hall in SM Tsung Tsin in Tenom. He also approved RM5 million for the maintenance of four primary schools in the district.

Additionally, Muhyiddin also announced that a vocational secondary school would be built in Tenom. - Insight Sabah
