Taxi stand goes green
Sabah will soon see a "green" taxi stand - the first of its kind in the country when the proposal to upgrade and renovate an existing taxi stand at Jalan Pantai in Kampung Air materialises.
The proposal was disclosed to Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir by Kota Kinabalu Teo Chew Association (KKTCA) President, Sr. Chua Soon Ping during a courtesy call at the City Hall today.
The project is the brainchild of a local architect, Ar. Sim Sie Hong of Innotech Design Architects Sdn Bhd, who proposed to rebuild the existing taxi stand using "renewable and green" building materials.
The project is initiated and partly sponsored by KKTCA together with several other companies in Sabah.
Explaining the project as part of their "Corporate Social Responsibility" for the City, Chua told Abidin that the new taxi stand will be fully powered by solar power, using the latest "Thin Film" technology.
The seating area will have an extended roof cover to provide more shelter to passengers from rain and shine.
Other features will include new LED lighting at night as well as ceiling fans to keep the taxi stand cool and ventilated.
According to Chua, the project would take three months to complete. Once completed, it will serve as a prototype of a small, energy saving green building in the city.
Thanking KKTCA for their initiative, the Mayor said the City Hall may look into the possibility of using the same technology for all the bus stands in the city in the future if the taxi stand proves to be a success. - Insight Sabah
