Rosnah presents Education Excellence Awards to high PMR and UPSR achiever
In a speech during the Education Excellence Award ceremony for Papar district, Papar member of parliament Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said that the government is committed to provide quality education in the country and at the same time ensure that it is accessible to all.
"To this end, a total of RM38.7 billion has been allocated to the Education Minisitry to carry out various education development programmes, and financial assistance under various schemes has also been provided to enable families to send their children to school," she said
Rosnah also mentioned the RM540 million that was allocated this year to give RM100 to each of the 5.4 million secondary school students across the country.
A sum of RM40 million has also been set aside to provide insurance coverage of up to RM100,000 each to all two million students using school bus services.
An additional RM500 million is allocated to run courses to help teachers improve their proficiency in the teaching of Bahasa Malaysia, English, Science and Mathematics under the newly launched National Education Plan 2013-2015.
"This includes the setting up of the Education Implementation Unit (EIU) to monitor the effectiveness of the national education transformation plan," she said.
At the Ceremony Rosnah presented awards to 76 students from various schools in the district who scored straight As in last year year’s Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) and Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examinations.
Present to witness the award ceremony were Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar, Papar Youth Chief Armizan Mohd Ali and Papar district education officer Abidin Marjan. --Insight Sabah
