Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman urged for Muslims to emulate Prophet Muhammad’s wasatiyyah or moderation approach to preserve the state’s prosperity, peace and harmony for people and to ensure the success of Prime Minister Najib Razak’s transformation vision for the country.

Speaking at the state-level Maulidur Rasul 1434H/2013M Assembly in the Sabah State Mosque, Musa said, “The Prophet’s success in governing Madinah through the practice of moderation should be cultivated in our daily lives today and the government at all levels.”

He stressed, “Especially of late, we often deal with groups that openly tries to divide the people through their extreme actions and fanatic beliefs. Even more worrisome when these groups try to influence the minds of our younger generation.”

“Fortunately, we are very grateful that the government under the leadership of the Prime Minister is aware of this threat and, thus, incorporated the wasatiyyah concept into the government administration.”

Musa also said the government’s dedication, sincerity and commitment is proven in their efforts and struggle to guarantee the safety and well-being of Muslims worldwide, especially with Prime Minister Najib Razak’s recent humanitarian visit to Gaza that symbolizes the country’s support towards the struggle of the Palestinian people.

Wasatiyyah is a principle of life that denotes moderation, gentleness, temperateness, keeping within bounds, calmness, reasonableness and peacefulness. Above all, this Islamic teaching denotes balance, justice and fairness.

“The wassatiyah concept adopted by the Prophet is proven with the supremacy of Madinah,” said Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department, Datuk Nasir Sakaran. “This shows the values of moderation is not only relevant in the context of our society but it is also prevalent in all the activities of individuals and communities  that stresses on improving the community’s quality of life in terms of knowledge, human development, economy system, finance, defense and unity.”
