City Hall switches to LED lighting

Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) is planning to switch to energy-efficient lighting to illuminate various parts of the city.
Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir said DBKK is working on a plan to replace ordinary bulbs with Light Emitting Diode (LED) lamps and has identified ten spots in the city for the project, namely, the Kota Kinabalu Central Market, Sinsuran, Bandaran Berjaya, Asia City, Api-Api, Sadong Jaya, Karamunsing, Sembulan, Sempelang and the town area of Tanjung Aru.
Datuk Abidin said LED lighting is considered a better option than the ordinary lamps because it is more energy-efficient, brighter, lasts longer, economical, and better for the environment
" DBKK plans to replace all the existing lights with LED bulbs if the trial is successful," he told reporters after closing the DBKK programme here on Wednesday.
The Mayor also touched on the city's worsening parking problem. said DBKK was also considering building a multi-level car park building to solve the chronic shortage of parking spaces in the city.
However, the project is still in the early stages of discussion with private companies, and is not likely to be built this year, he said.
"The shortage of parking spaces is cause for concern to many motorists, and the only solution appears to be to build multi-level carparks at strategic locations in the city, and this is best done with cooperation from the private sector," he explained. - Insight Sabah
