Cultural celebrations
When people and leaders come together

1Malaysia unity on display at Foh Sang
“This is the celebration for me. I like the crowd with our leaders.” said accountant Wong Soo Tin, 38, as she joined Dr Yee Moh Cai, minister of resource development and information technology, and 3,000 others to celebrate the Chinese new year at Foh Sang in Kota Kinabalu on February 26.
The Chinese new year Pentarama Bersama Rakyat (stage show with the people) was the first to be organised by the Sabah information department. The crowd was entertained not only by dragon and lion dances and Chinese martial art feats. There were dancers performing traditional cultural dances and singers who belted out traditional songs in Chinese, Malay and Kadazan that reflected the 1Malaysia way of unity of the multi-racial country.
“We see the Kadazandusuns, Malays, Indians and others here,” said Dr Yee who graced the event. “This truly reflects the 1Malaysia concept. This is because Sabah is always peaceful and harmonious. I hope this harmony will be maintained.”
Adrian Chung, 12, a primary six pupil at Chung Hwa school in Likas was fascinated by the martial arts display and roar of the drums.
“I always like lion and dragon dances,” he said. “I like to see the fierce dragons and lions. They frighten away the evil spirits.” – Insight Sabah
