ICT Month: An Effort to Increase ICT Awareness

In a bid to increase Information Communication and Technology (ICT) awareness in the state, the Ministry of Resource Development and Information Technology led by Datuk Dr. Yee Moh Chai in collaboration with various state departments and NGOs have sought to organize an ICT month on an annual basis.
"The objective of the ICT month is to help implement the policy of the government, namely, to increase ICT awareness. It is also held statewide so that everyone in the state is aware of the potential of ICT," said Dr. Yee at a press conference held in Wisma Bandaraya today.
With the theme "Digitalizing Sabah: Creating the Wave 2.0," the ICT month will be a month-long programme this November. 2012 marks the 6th year that this initiative is held.
Dr. Yee told reporters that the Ministry received a positive response to the ICT month in previous years.
"The response was good every year and because of the good response we are happy to continue doing it," he said.
This year, 25 activities are held during the ICT month. The target groups of these activities include students, youths, senior citizens, ICT industry players and those living in rural areas.
Among the line-up of activities for the month include TEXpo Asia, technorama-iT Fiesta, Digital Story Telling, Sabah Got Ideas, and the Sabah Education Digital Film Festival. The general public is encouraged to take this opportunity to participate in the various activities this month.
The month-long programme will end with an ICT Gala Night as a token of appreciation to all stakeholders who have assisted in the organization of the ICT month. - Insight Sabah
