PR1MA Homes for middle-income Sabahans

Datuk Hajiji Noor, Minister for Local Government and Housing

State Minister for Local Government and Housing Datuk Hajiji Noor said that the state government would make recommendations to the federal government regarding the possibility of opening up suitable undeveloped land belonging to government agencies for the construction of affordable homes under the 1Malaysia Public Housing project (PR1MA), a move that would benefit the middle income group in Sabah.

"I have met PR1MA chief executive officer, Abdul Mutalib Alias to discuss the need for affordable homes so that middle-income people in all districts in Sabah can own a house,'' he said when commenting on the statement by Prime Minister Najib Razak during the launching of the Promises Fulfilled tour in Kudat.

PR1MA is a government programme targeted at the middle income group with a monthly household income of between RM2,500 - RM7,500. It  is designed to encourage home-ownership through the construction of affordable-priced homes in urban areas in the country.

The 2013 Budget tabled in Parliament recently provides for RM500 million for the purpose of building 50,000 units of houses in urban areas across Malaysia. Each unit would carry a price tag anywhere between RM100,000 - RM400,000.

The first PR1MA project was launched in Seremban last month. - Insight Sabah
