Kurang ruang bukan halangan bagi SESB di Alam Mesra

Kekurangan ruang tidak menghalang Sabah Electricity Sendirian Berhad, pembekal tenaga negeri, daripada membawa 16 megawatt bekalan elektrik kepada 3,500 pelanggan di Alam Mesra, sebuah bandar yang pesat dan terletak kira-kira 7km dari pusat Kota Kinabalu. Kira-kira 15,000 orang tinggal di rumah atau bekerja di kedai-kedai dan pejabat di sana. Hasilnya adalah tenaga substesen luar pertama di Malaysia bernilai RM28.5 juta mendapat kebenaran daripada Timbalan Ketua Menteri Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, yang juga adalah menteri pembangunan infrastruktur.
Tenaga di kawasan tertutup adalah lebih murah RM3.6 juta yang sama kapasitinya dengan penjanaan tenaga di Minintod Penampang, kata Abdul Razak Salim, pengarah urusan SESB. Namun SESB tidak memiliki tanah yang mencukupi.
Dikenali sebagai suis penebatan padat udara (CAIS) di kawasan luar, ia mula beroperasi pada 2009. Ia mengurangkan beban substesen di Universiti Malaysia Sabah, tidak jauh daripadanya. Dan ia sepatutnya mampu membekalkan tenaga stabil di Alam Mesra.
Pairin yang melawatnya pada 11 Julai berkata, ia juga sepatutnya dapat membekalkan elektrik kepada penduduk di tempat berdekatan seperti di Sepanggar dan Kingfisher.
"Ini menunjukkan bahawa kerajaan mengambil langkah-langkah untuk memperbaiki bekalan elektrik di Sabah," katanya. – Insight Sabah
