The organisers of Sabah’s second Burnout 360, the Sabah Drift Challenge, said about 4,000 people turned up at the car park of the Likas Sports Complex in Kota Kinabalu on November 4 and 5 to watch 16 drivers burnt their car tyres in a screeching display of a little daredevil driving to win some cash. Kota Kinabalu Mayor Abidin Madingkir, whose City Hall sponsored the event, said such a motor sport would give his city of almost a million people a bit of excitement.

Elaine LiewElaine Liew Ching Ven, 25, a banker at Kuwait Finance House, did not win a prize. She came in second last but found the contest exciting and an eye-opener. She was the only woman competitor and it was her first outing. She aims to be in the best eight or four the next time. Liew says she became interested in the drift challenge because her father and brother are motor sport enthusiasts.

Winners were Alig Wong who took the first prize of 3,000 ringgit ($962), Leong Vun Chan second and Lee Ngan Hing third. Leong got 2,000 ringgit and Lee 1,000 ringgit for their effort. – Insight Sabah
