  • The game of kings lacks money and fans

Polo is hailed as the king of games and the game of kings. It is a fast sport played on horseback largely by royalties and the rich and famous in a team of four. Membership of royal polo clubs in Malaysia is exclusive and only by invitation. The Sabah Polo Association opens its membership to the public. But it has grown little after 28 years. The club of 30 now frets over its small number, lack of a permanent club house and having to pay fees for matches at the 40m-ringgit ($12m) Tambalang race course in Tuaran, about 30km from Kota Kinabalu.
