A nation marches on

Thousands of Malaysian flags fluttered inside the Likas sports complex in Kota Kinabalu. As in Kuala Lumpur, the nation’s capital, the national day of the 13-state federation that marked 53 years of independence from Britain was celebrated with pomp and circumstance on August 31 despite Ramadan – a month of fasting for Muslims.
