  • Cutting down outages

People in Sabah have put up with frequent power outages for years. The reason, according to Sabah Electricity Sendirian Berhad (SESB), is that it is not generating enough electricity because many of its plants are old and they break down often. On average, an electricity consumer experienced the highest power disruption of 48 hours last year. Peter Chin Kah Fui, federal minister of green technology and water, wants to cut it down by slightly more than three-quarters to less than 12 hours by December. If not, he will quit his job, he says. And Ranhill’s new 190MW gas turbine plant at Sepanggar Bay, about 25km (16 miles) from Kota Kinabalu, is going to help him achieve his goal.
